Why Robert?

I discovered Robert by accident due to an interest in Stargate SG-1, where he appeared in some of the early episodes. I found out he'd been on the X-Files as Robert Modell in the episodes Pusher and Kitsunegari. I watched. I was hooked. Anyone who can make a psychotic serial killer attractive has got to be a winner!

Robert seems to have gift for making the characters he plays ... real. That sounds silly - after all, it's an actor's job to make the characters they play seem real, but Robert somehow manages to make them more so. He seems to be able to take the character in the script and add to them, flesh them out, usually with humour and a good dose of irreverence. The characters Robert plays aren't simply 'a serial killer', 'a loving dad', 'a hardened detective' ... he turns them into people, with histories, strengths, vulnerabilities and senses of humour, who just happen to be those things, as well. That's the trick, I think - they aren't just what they're written to be in the script - they're those things, too. Whatever it is, Robert does it so well that in my opinion he very often steals the scene - or the show.

And, yes ... it does help that I happen to think the man is gorgeous.

So, what we have here is a guy who is talented, hardworking, funny, and in fact remarkably easy on the eyes.

Why Robert?

Why the heck not?
